We'll explain what to expect during the healing process, how long it typically takes, and the do's and don'ts to ensure proper healing. **How We Heal**

When your body heals a piercing, it forms a tunnel of skin around the jewelry, known as a fistula. This process takes several months and varies for each individual based on factors like health, grooming habits, and lifestyle. Consistent and proper care throughout the healing process is crucial for success. Below, you'll find general guidelines and tips to help your body heal your new piercing effectively.

**What to Expect During Healing**

It’s normal to experience the following as part of the healing process:
- **Slight redness and swelling**
- **Tenderness**
- **Light bleeding or presence of scabs/dried blood** *(Do not pick them off!)*
- **White or yellow discharge that dries into a crust** *(Do not pick this off!)*

These symptoms should subside within the first 2–4 weeks.

**DO’s for Successful Healing**

- **Be consistent**: Follow aftercare instructions diligently throughout the entire healing process.
- **Reach out to us**: Contact our studio with any questions, comments, or concerns.
- **Keep your jewelry in place**: Removing jewelry, even briefly, can cause the piercing to close.
- **Downsize your jewelry**: After the initial swelling subsides (6–12 weeks), consult us to downsize your jewelry.

**DON’Ts During Healing**

**Avoid touching your piercing!**
- Never touch, twist, spin, or play with your jewelry.
- Do not let clothes, hair, or other objects snag or irritate the area.
- Keep towels, washcloths, and loofahs away from the piercing.

**Do not sleep on your piercing.**

Pressure can damage the healing fistula.

**Avoid bacteria exposure.**

- Ensure clothing, hats, pillowcases, and other items near the piercing are always clean.
- Keep away from other people’s bodily fluids, pet dander, and unclean environments.
- Avoid swimming or submerging the piercing in water (e.g., pools, baths, hot tubs).

- Do not use soaps, lotions, cosmetics, or antiseptics on or near the piercing.
- Never clean your piercing with alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Bactine, Dial soap, Neosporin, or similar products.
- Keep makeup and skincare products away from the piercing.

**Avoid chemicals and harsh products.**

**No Q-tips or cotton swabs.**
